India has achieved nothing in Kashmir in last 30 years: Top J-K leader

India has achieved nothing in Kashmir in last 30 years - Top J-K leader - Dr. Mustafa KamalSenior National Conference leader and brother of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah Dr. Mustafa Kamal courted controversy today demanding the government to relook its Kashmir policy. Kamal said the government has achieved nothing in Kashmir over the last 30 years by fighting militants.

Talking exclusively to India Today Group, Kamal backed the idea of revoking Armed Forces Special Powers Acts in Kashmir. He said Kashmir will be independent as neither India nor Pakistan loves the people of the Valley.

“India should stop anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir and start negotiations with Pakistan. We have achieved nothing in the last 30 years by using force against militants. In my opinion, Allah has destined independence for us and we will get it,” Kamal said. “By heart, both of them do not treat us as their own. Neither India nor Pakistan loves us … In my opinion, Allah has destined independence for us and we will get it, “India can never end militancy in Kashmir and the Centre’s Kashmir policy should be relooked,” he added. Kamal’s statement comes a day after former J-K CM Farooq Abdullah supported the idea of greater autonomy for both Kashmirs.

Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah had said neither India nor Pakistan has the capability to establish their rule over the whole region.

“India and Pakistan should provide greater autonomy to Kashmir under their control and make borders irrelevant by allowing free travel and trade across it. Both the countries have atomic bombs. Are we going to drop these bombs on each other and get wiped out,” Abdullah said.
