The head of a Daesh-affiliated terror group has been killed in an operation in northern region of Pakistan, a Pakistani official said Sunday.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Alami chief Khalilur Rahman, also known as Commander Khalil with a two million-rupee ($16,600) bounty on his head, was killed in Diamer district in Gilgit-Baltistan region.

“Khalil was killed during clash with police while his two other militants were arrested in injured condition,” Aijaz Ahmad, a local police officer of Diamer district, told Anadolu Agency on phone.

Rahman was behind several terrorist attacks including those targeting schools in the area, he added.

A police operation was still underway in different areas of Diamer district.

On Aug. 3, at least 12 schools had been burned down by militants in Chilas area. Following the attacks, police have launched counterterrorism operations in Chilas and killed at least one suspected Taliban member, while 31 others were arrested.

According to media reports, the LeJ-Al-Alami had claimed several attacks mostly in southwestern Balochistan province including the attack on Police Academy in Quetta city and suicide bombing at the Shrine of Shah Norani in Khuzdar in 2016, which had killed 120 people, including police officers.

Bomb explosion

Meanwhile, at least one person was killed and 10 others injured in a bomb explosion on Sunday in southwestern Balochistan province, local media said.

According to Express News a local broadcaster, the bomb was planted in a motorbike and parked near an under construction office of the police in Chaman city.

The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital, while security forces have launched a search operation.
