Measles claims more lives in Sindh

Claims of federal and provincial governments and steps taken by health authorities failed to overcome the deadly epidemic, measles as nine more children died of the disease in interior Sindh, raising the death toll in the province to 369. According to details, though efforts were underway to take control over measles but it continued to spread its wings to various districts of Sindh and nine affected children lost their lives on Saturday.

Dwellers of various districts have complained against the non-availability of anti-measles vaccine. People are facing severe difficulty in Moro city and adjoining areas due to vaccine shortage. Most affected areas include Kandhkot, Kashmore, Tangwani and 80 other villages.

The provincial health minister has claimed that some 2.9 million children have been vaccinated against measles, under a crash program, in the eight worst hit districts of Sindh. It’s worth mentioning that the outbreak of measles killed a total 386 children across the country.
