Take steps to protect Kashmiri #prisoners, resolve #Kashmir issue: DFP to #Guterres – The #UN has the responsibility to use appropriate diplomatic, humanitarian and other peaceful means, in accordance with Chapters VI and VIII of the Charter, to help protect populations from #genocide, #warcrimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) today appealed to the United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres to take steps for protection of the Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails in and outside Jammu Kashmir.

“The UN should take practical measures to get Prisoner of Conscience Shabir Shah out of Tihar jail as he is suffering from serious ailments and also take measures so that the Kashmir dispute is resolved. Kashmir dispute was born two years after the formation of the UN so the International forum and the Kashmir dispute are almost of the same age,” a DFP spokesman said in a statement.

He said, “The UN has the responsibility to use appropriate diplomatic, humanitarian and other peaceful means, in accordance with Chapters VI and VIII of the Charter, to help protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.”

He said, “Political prisoners include DFP chief Shabir Shah who is languishing in Tihar jail, Delhi, only because he has been advocating the implementation of the UNSC resolutions throughout his political career. The irony is that Shabir Shah is seriously ill and is denied suitable medical treatment thereby endangering his life.”

“The UN should take serious steps to resolve the issues like Kashmir, which are continuously threatening the world peace and consuming human lives and urged upon New Delhi to protect the lives of Kashmiri political prisoners,” the spokesman said, adding that “The UN is a platform for the world community to come together and think over the issues pertaining to the people. Since India is a member of the UNGA and signatory to the Charters and Resolutions of the UNSC, hence member nations must use their influence to motivate New Delhi to adopt a resolution process.”
