Tayyab lifts Asian Junior Squash title

Tayyab Aslam of Pakistan carved out a sensational 3-2 victory against top seed Indian Kush Kumar to lift 21st Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship 2014 title at Olympic Squash Center, Kish Island, Iran on Thursday.
Talking to The Nation, Tayyab said: “As I have promised, I would lift Asian title, I struggled hard and outplayed Indian Kush to fulfill my task. I managed to settle down well in the first game and took it 11-6 but in the next two games, Kush dominated entire proceedings and won the second game 11-7 and third 11-6. The fourth game was also in favour of Kush as he raced onto take 7-3 lead, but I managed to first level the score at 7-7 and then went onto take the game 11-9. The fifth game was arguably the best of the entire event as both of us played out of our skins and we fought for each and every point. The game was locked at 10-10, 12-12 and 14-14, at that stage I decided to change gears and adopted aggressive strategy, which paid off and I took next two points in a row to take the game 16-14, thus won the the marathon final.”

“I dedicate my victory to entire nation. This victory was just possible due to hard work and support of my coaches, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) and Punjab Squash Association (PSA). This victory also means Asian Junior title remains in Pakistan for the third year in running as in 2012 Danish Atlas won the title and in 2013 Syed Ali Mujtaba Bokhari won it and now it was my turn to repeat the same,” Tayyab concluded.

Earlier, Tayyab beat M Syafiq Kamal in the first semifinal and top seed Indian Kush Kumar brushed aside Israr Ahmed in the second semifinal.
